Review: Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs

Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs retold by Mo Willems. 2012. 40 pgs. New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers. 9780062104182. Format reviewed: Hardcover.

Annotation: Three dinosaurs set the perfect trap for Goldilocks, and can hardly wait to get them where they want her- in their stomachs!
Reaction: Willems yet again writes a book that is enjoyable for adults as children. The narrative uses asides in a way that will make parents laugh, while also having enough fun images that children will enjoy guessing what will be coming next in this fun twist on the classic tale.
Primary early literacy skill enhanced: Narrative skills. Tells the story of Goldilocks, but uses dinosaurs to set a trap- children will be able to predict the story based on their knowledge of the fairy tale, but will still be surprised by the added elements.
