Review: What’s Inside? Neighborhood

What’s Inside? Neighborhood by Dwell Studios. 2011. 5 pgs. Maplewood, NJ: Blue Apple Books. 9781609051020. Format reviewed: Board Book.

Annotation: What’s in different places around the neighborhood? Lift the flap to see what’s inside!
Reaction: The quality of the book is excellent. Although only visiting five locations- the Firehouse, Hardware Store, the Grocery, the Library, and the Pizzeria- the places under the flaps are highly detailed, and each place includes questions for parents to ask to engage in dialogic reader with their children!
Primary early literacy skills: Vocabulary. Inside each location, under the flap, every piece of furniture, object, article of clothing, and even vehicles are named.
Recommended ages: 2 and up.
Tags/themes: Buildings, occupations, family life, places.
