Waiting Place by Marc
Sutherland. 1998. 24 pgs. New York, NY: Harry N. Abrams, Inc. 9780810939943.
Annotation: When a young boy can’t sleep, he imagines
all the things he’ll do as he waits for tomorrow to come.
Reaction: The narrative follows the boy thinking of
fantastical things he wants to do as he tries to fall asleep. Of course, at the
end we learn he had been dreaming the whole time! The black and white pencil
drawings using lush shadowing and detail to show all of the fantastical things
the boy plans to do the next day- from meeting the man in the moon, to dealing
with a ship full of Vikings, having tea with a Yeti, or going underwater.
